'Tis the Season

So:

It's finally starting to feel a little like winter in our neck-o-the-woods. Surely you've all tasted the frosty-morning/evening-bite that the bay breeze has been bringing.

This is a good thing! True fitness is not something that can only be expressed in climate controlled comfort. Exposing yourself to something as simple as a temperature change can add a little extra something to your workouts (spice?). Mentally, it is good to know that you are good to go regardless of the environment you find yourself in. The fortitude developed and required by showing up in the dark and cold at the beginning/end of your day is just as important as the physical improvements your workout will bring. Just make sure to layer-up so you can get warm initially (don't worry, we'll help you with that). Self improvement is rarely comfortable anyway, so the cold ain't no thing.

Adrian:
"But what is best in life?"

Billy Biceps:
"The open elliptical, four-minute abs, cable-cross-overs at your wrists, and the air conditioning in your hair"

Adrian:
"WRONG! Kelly! What is best in life?

Kelly:
"To Crush your PRs, regardless of climate, and hear the lamentations created by your contrast shower".

Adrian:
"That is good! That is good!!"

Besides, it's easier showing up knowing that all your comrades-at-arms will be there too...

PS let's make sure to put the plates back a little nicer...stack similar weights on top of each other to avoid the leaning tower of rubber pictured below!

Conan's fitness program consisted in turning a mill for several years. You wouldn't think that would be terribly functional, but, clearly, it supplied him w/ a level of general physical preparedness more than sufficient to kick ass and take names. I think there's a lesson there, but I'm too sleep-deprived to discern it. I'm confident, though, that it has something to do with (a) hero-myths in nonmarket agrarian societies, and (b) cock push-ups --- which, incidentally, have been unacceptably neglected on this blog of late. WTF.

I feel violated, I lost my sweating in a hail storm virginity. And, according to the pictures, I'm losing my hair. At least I have my pride. Thanks Adrian!

Ross,

Amazingly, not only did turning the mill leave Conan with remarkably few (visual) imbalances in his fitness, allowing him to do battle with a snake changing James Earl Jones, but also permitted him to acquire quite the vocabulary. I had to look "lamentations" up. Can we somehow combine bucket training with mill training? Can we make our crossfit even more pre-historic?

Nonmarket agrarian paleosexual dominance through mastery of mill-training and Conan's Perfect Cock Push-Up? I'm in.

We harness our power, speed, and Jaguar like reflexes day and night in the shadows of the GG Bridge. The frigid tempatures that winter may throw @ us shatter before our feet in humble observance of the fact that we are fit as f**k. The cold weather only delights us because we know we are more than men (or women) but less than gods for braving the tempatures to perform tasks that would snap the tendons and bones of globo gym rats. I will follow all of you into the snowy mists of avalon if need be.

Where do you come up with this shit?

Until you have done crossfit in the hail you are not hardcore enough. I think the next step though is in the snow doing backward lunges uphill both ways.

This thread got real odd. Walking the mill is one thing...cock pushups? That's it, I think I need to stretch and go convince my wife that cock pushups don't constitute cheating.

For those that are interested, I posted a few pictures from the TransBay Holiday Workout/Party at:

It was cool to stop by and meet some of you. Next time, I might actually workout instead of just snapping pictures.
