A Word About Our Family

We strive to make SFCF the Third Place. The third place is a term used in the concept of community building to refer to social surroundings separate from the two usual social environments of home and the workplace. Third places are "anchors" of community life and facilitate and foster broader, more creative interaction.

As we often point out, SFCF is place where people regularly expose their weaknesses, and openly fail in front of their fellow athletes. Ours is a training table of trust and shared efforts. And shared triumphs.

This last Wednesday, Meghan Kearney (amazing girl in the greenish shirt sitting in the front row with her hand cutely posed by her face) came to our 6pm class having had her first haircut since completing her chemo-therapy for breast cancer.
Wednesday marked about 6 months since she finished her last round. And her hair was looking a little shaggy...

She's remarkable on her own. And we are made more remarkable because we train beside her.

I love my family.

Nice MK!

the crossfit community has turned this incredibly difficult transition into a transition to health. a transition to strength. honestly, a transition towards happiness.

Um...
I don't go to San Fran CrossFit, cause I live in san diego and all.

BUT. I love you guys just the same, and I LOVE what you do for Meghan.

So. Major kudos for being you, and doing what you do so well.

keep it up.

As someone who has been a part of many organizations over his lifetime, the one thing that I have seen at SFCF different more than anything else is we have excellent leaders. Without Kelly and Adrian, I know that this wouldn't be the same family that it is. That being said you guys are amazing for being able to help people like Meghan (and myself for that matter) feel like we are welcome in your community. The best part is, I know that you make everyone feel like they are welcome. Thank you both for truly making this the Third Place.

I keep telling folks that SFCF is so much more than a place to move heavy weight. It is a unique community of people looking to challenge themselves and each other to be better. Kelly, thank you for creating an incredible community and thank you to everyone that comes out and goes for it. You are a bunch of monsters just for showing up.

My home away from home. There is nothing like suffering, failing, and exposing your weaknesses in front of others willing to do the same in front of you. No one is beyond gassing out, hitting a wall, or being humbled by a workout. The only place where new people are welcomed with handshakes, introductions, and immediate support. Even if it is Coach K yelling in their ears to keep going.

P.S. Coach Kevin, thank you for the humbling workout last night. I hated and loved it.

Meghan,

I am always inspired when participating in a Crossfit workout, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to workout with you prior to moving to Costa Rica. I had no idea you had successfully kicked cancer's ass, and it just inspires me that much more. Thank you for continuing to be an example of fearlessness, something that is required every time we step onto the Crossfit pavement, and something I am working to gain here in Costa Rica.
xo,
Becca

Meghan: Awesome, totally awesome! Stoked for you. I'm sure you're happy about this achievement; I just hope you're also as proud of it as you should be. Well done.

I know I'm a little late to the party on this one, but I think JD misunderstood which chick Patrick was admiring. See if you can figure it out after looking at this picture of super saiyen.
